Treating Everyone with Dignity and Respect

Yayasan Suria JB Care (YSJBC) – Treating everyone with dignity & respect!

To some, an intern is irrelevant or insignificant to any organisation or company, as I speak from my own experience while undergoing practical training(now internship) some 52 years ago when I was at Serdang Agricultural College from 1971/1974 – how time flew by that fast!

Not only do we treat all the people we help, the Poor & Needy with dignity and respect, we refer to them as our clients, just like in doing business, our clients are the most important people and they come first!

Even interns who are attached to us for their training, are treated well.

Indeed, it has been the policy of our Foundation to treat everyone well with respect and dignity – our clients(the Poor & Needy), our donors/supporters, volunteers, visitors to our office and also interns who undergo training with us, for we love others as much as we love ourselves, no more no less!

One such person is an intern from USM, studying social science for her degree, on a 3-month attachment from Aug – Oct 2024, Nur Aien Syahirah, who stood out among the many interns we have had over the years.Indeed, when I was about to write this article, I was trying to search for some photos of her, I could hardly find many as most of the time when she was with us, she was busily taking many photos and videos of our activities.

She is always selfless, taking care of others first, always minding other people’s welfare first and putting herself last, a trait not many possess!

She would put them into videos and have them delivered to me about 5 hours after the events, to enable me to do my postings – such is her dedication, passion and seriousness in whatever tasks assigned to her.

Enjoy the videos from her:

We have not given any interns a farewell dinner but she was an exception to the rule – she was attached to both YSJB & another NGO, Ihsan Johor (IJ), our long time synergy partner, to enable her to have more exposure in volunteerism with 2 NGOs during the 3 months with us.

She was presented with certificates and appreciation letters from both NGOs on 5/10/2024 during her farewell dinner. We wish her all the very best in her studies as she makes her way back to Penang on 10/10/2024.

We hope her experience during this short stint will motivate her to contribute back to humanity later on and be a useful member of society, always serving with love & humility! It was a privilege hosting her for the past 3 months. We thank her for this privilege – one takeaway from her was her coolness when we were rushing things and her composure & “smiles” which melted tensions away!

Both IJ & YSJB also taught her good human values, character building and the “ingredients” how to succeed in life – not so much about the degree you have but how well you get along with others in the real corporate world later on when you graduate:

What YSJB doesn’t do when it comes to serving humanity with l❤️ve & humility.”

“I shall pass this way but once; any good that I can do or any kindness I can show to any human being; let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.”
