ABOUT US

YAYASAN KEBAJIKAN SURIA KAWASAN PERMAS JOHOR BAHRU or in short, YSJB (Suria Foundation, Johor Bahru) is a foundation to help the Poor, Marginalized, Homeless, Single mothers, Blind, People living with HIV/AIDS and the Disadvantaged & marginalised in society.

The foundation was setup with the approval from the Malaysian Government, ROS – Registrar of Society, under SOCIETIES ACT 1966, Ministry of Home Affairs on 14 September 2012 (Registration Number PPM-020-01-14092012).

The Foundation is the brainchild of James Philip Ho (or commonly refer to as (“James Ho”). He has been doing a lot of charity work on his own for the past 30 years (Tsunami Project in Indonesia 2005, Kota Tinggi/Plentong (Johor) Floods 2006, Sabah earthquake 2015 and most recently, the Semporna’s Covid-19 non-medical mission Nov/Dec 2020 in Sabah.

Collecting funds for Cancer patients, Counselling in Hospitals, etc) to prove to the Malaysian Government (MG) that he is genuine and after checking his records, the MG finally approved the formation of the Foundation in 2012.

3 years after being recognised by ROS, the Foundation (YSJB) was recognised by Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) through their charity arm, IMSHA (Iskandar Malaysia Social Heroes Award) for doing social work.

Iskandar Malaysia is an economic development area around the Johor Bahru district encompassing about 2.5 times the size of Singapore island.

The Foundation does also donate to Mercy Malaysia, UNICEF, Children Homes, etc for natural disaster (Earthquakes, Typhoons, Floods, etc). Other than the financial support, we also lend a listening ear and that takes a lot of our time & energy.

Before setting up the Foundation, he was as an Estate Manager in Boustead Plantations, then as General Manager (Plantations) in Keck Seng (M) Bhd, before he retired in 2016 to concentrate on social work, the funds were raised through personal donations from friends & supporters and managed by James Ho personally.

James is a Cancer Survivor and he has a particular soft spot for people with Cancer. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2002, treated & was given a clean bill of health in 2004.

Realizing that life is temporary here on earth, the Foundation (approved by the Govt) is the serious thing James Ho is now getting into – for when he dies whatever he is doing now will die with him. But with the Foundation, it shall carry on the work to help the Poor, Homeless, Marginalized, HIV/AIDS people and the Disadvantaged in society. He cannot bring along what he had accumulated here on earth and by setting up the Foundation, he sincerely hopes the work that he and his friends ARE DOING RIGHT NOW can be carried on to the future generations. What he thinks he can bring along to wherever he is going (He doesn’t really know where he is going, to be honest) is WHAT HE HAD DONE HERE ON EARTH. We all have to leave everything behind (our loved ones, our titles, our positions, our posts, our monies, our properties, and everything OURS). The Foundation is NOT FOR HIM, NOT FOR YOU but for THEM (the people who needs our help, care & love) when we are gone.

The foundation gives out about MR10,340 monthly (66 cases as at 1/12/2024) to help people in need ranging from HIV/AIDS people, Children’s Home, Single mothers, Homeless, Blind, Cancer patients, People with various diseases and Less Fortunate people. The Foundation hope to do more if funds are forthcoming and Companies are welcome to be part of our efforts in reaching out to more people in future. For info, over the last 20 years or so, we have had collected and given out some RM7m over the years.

Our accounts are done and audited by a Chartered accounting firm, SE Lai CK of SAL Group at 2J, Jalan Giam, Taman Majidee, 80250 Johor Bahru and submitted yearly to ROS and Income Tax Department of Malaysia..

We are very transparent and anyone wishing to take a look at our accounts are welcome to do so – just contact us.

Recently in 2020, we obtained tax exemption approval from Income Tax Department – LHDN (Approval No: LHDN.01/35/42/51/179-6.8537). LHDN is Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri, the Income Tax Department of Malaysia.

James Ho was the Founding Chairperson then, but now he is the Secretary as he wants the members to learn the ropes of running the Foundation. He is still the man behind the Foundation but is now acting as Secretary/Adviser. Ms Molly Liew Chong Lan is now the Chairperson. As you are aware, getting volunteers is difficult and due to his passion & drive, this work of helping others must go on at whatever cost. The Foundation is managed by a Committee comprising of Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and 4 EXCO members.

The Foundation is proudly a 100% VOLUNTEER organization, run entirely by members who are not paid at all, including me, the Founder.

On 2nd March 2024, we have finally shifted to our own new building, the HOUSE OF LOVE & HUMANITY at 51, Jalan Seroja 1, Taman Johor Jaya, 81100 Johor Bahru, Johor Bahru. Some manned the office in Taman Johor Jaya while others run around doing “field work” daily, 365 days a year, as hungry people have no holidays – they need food to eat!

I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good, therefore, that I can do or any kindness I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it for I shall not pass this way again.

We are coloured blind, serving all with L❤️ve & Humility, irrespective of race or religion. This has been our motto since our inception on 14th Sept 2012.
